 You may have heard that the Bible contains 365 verses that say “Do not fear.” This is not literally true. Various translations may use different words or phrases, such as “do not be afraid” or the writer may remind himself not to fear using the first person: “I will not fear” or “I will not be afraid.” There are verses that tell us not to be anxious. There are also verses that concentrate on the opposite of fear, which is peace. I’m sure if you count all of these, you will come up with 365 or thereabouts.

Here is a list of 30 of the best Bible verses that tell us not to fear.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can mankind do to me?

Psalm 91:1-2, 4-6

One who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will lodge in the shadow of the Almighty.

He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wings you may take refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and wall.

You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;
Of the plague that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that devastates at noon.

And adornment to your neck.

And your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Do not be afraid of sudden danger,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.

Go up on a high mountain, Zion, messenger of good news,
Raise your voice forcefully,
Jerusalem, messenger of good news;
Raise it up, do not fear.
Say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your God!”
Behold, the Lord God will come with might,
With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His compensation is with Him,
And His reward before Him.

In His arm He will gather the lambs
And carry them in the fold of His robe;
He will gently lead the nursing ewes.

Jacob whom I have chosen,

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth
And called from its remotest parts,
And said to you, ‘You are My servant,
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, I will also help you,
I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ ”

And He who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Lamentations 3:55-58

I called on Your name, Lord, Out of the lowest pit.
You have heard my voice, “Do not cover Your ear from my plea for relief, From my cry for help.”
You came near on the day I called to You;
You said, “Do not fear!”
Lord, You have pleaded my soul’s cause;
You have redeemed my life.

He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

Matthew 6:25-27

“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span?”

Matthew 6:28-33

And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.

Matthew 10:28-31

And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Are two sparrows not sold for an assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not fear; you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.

Luke 12:32

“Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father has chosen to give you the kingdom.”

John 14:27

“Peace I leave you, My peace I give you;
not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.”

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Hebrews 13:5b-6

He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you,”
so that we confidently say,

“The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 3:13-15

And who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be in dread, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect.

1 Peter 5:6-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
so that He may exalt you at the proper time,
having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

1 John 4:16-18a

We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, we also are in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear.
